106. Portal Lookout and Lapstones:

Location: access the Glenbrook section of the Blue Mountains National Park by turning into Mann Street, Glenbrook at the traffic lights and continuing along Burfit parade and Bruce Road to the NPWS entrance gate. A fee to enter is payable per vehicle on weekends and most public holidays but not during weekdays. Continue along the Oaks Fire Trail about 2km and turn left into Portal Lookout access track and proceed about 3km to the Lookout.

Relevance to Cox’s Road: This lookout is 1.5km south of the original Cox’s Road and provides a perspective on the steepness of the road climb, ascending from the Emu Plains below (20m) to the top of the monocline (190m), a climb of around 170m over 1.5km of road, a mean gradient of 11.5%.
